Banglabandha Express has started running on Panchagarh-Rajshahi route. It was inaugurated by Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan on Thursday (October 15th).
Later, Railway Minister said, “direct trains from Rangpur to Murshidabad and Rajshahi to Nepal are being considered. If we can establish communication in the future, then we will have rail connectivity not only with India but also with Nepal and Bhutan.”
He also said that a quadrilateral link between Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Bhutan would be established.
The minister inaugurated the ‘Banglabandha Express’ train on the Rajshahi-Panchagarh route at the Panchagarh Heroic freedom fighter Sirajul Islam Railway Station at noon.
The minister further said, “this train was a long standing demand of the people of Panchagarh-Rajshahi route. The people of Panchagarh, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur will benefit.”
“We have taken up the project, not only Banglabandha, we can connect this train with Siliguri through Banglabandha. Talks have already been held with the Government of India. They have expressed interest. They asked whether the railway line from Siliguri to Panchagarh could be extended. In the future, Nepal, Bhutan, India and Bangladesh will get the benefit of this train,” minister Sujan added.
The inaugural function was presided over by General Manager of Western Railway Mihir Kanti Guha, Railway Secretary Selim Reza, Panchagarh-1 MP Mazaharul Haque Pradhan, Deputy Commissioner Sabina Yasmin, Superintendent of Police Yusuf Ali, District Council Chairman Anwar Sadat.
